Mary Coratti

Mary Coratti of Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2011 with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 20, 1929 to Angelo and Colomba Romanelli. On June 5, 1948 she married Angelo Coratti at Santa Maria Catholic Church in Detroit and he survives. She is the dearest mother of Debra (Ronald) Wangrud, Richard (Nancy), Thomas (Janice), Michele (Daniel) Pfeffer, and Peter. Dearest grandmother of nine grandchildren (Curtis, Melia, Kristine, Anthony, Bryan, Alanna, Peter, Adrianna and Maria) and one great granddaughter Isabella. Sister of Peter Romanelli. Cousin of Mary Mullett. Sister-in-law of Viola Perreca and Verna Mattia. Visitation will be held at O'Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Novi on Tuesday from 1-8pm where the rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at St. Colman of Cloyne, 32500 Middlebelt, Farmington Hills with The Rev. Fr. Norbert as celebrant. She will lie in state from 9am until time of service. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre. Married for 62 years, she and Angelo had a special relationship that few couples are able to emulate. Mary's mission in life was to raise her five children with love, laughter and guidance. In addition, Mary was also a mother figure for all of her nine grandchildren as they each benefited from her unconditional love and her Nana Mary kisses. Full of life, Mary loved to laugh and was one of the first at the party and the last to leave. Over fifty years ago at St. Gerard's in Detroit Mary began a special relationship with eight lady friends as they formed the St. Agatha's Guild that included time for prayers and special friendships. Devoutly religious, every night Mary ended the day with a rosary and special prayers for those in need. Being an excellent cook, Mary loved to have the family over for dinner so they could enjoy her homemade pasta and other Italian delectables. As a result of Mary's influence, almost every Sunday all of the siblings take turns hosting Sunday dinners so the family can enjoy each other's company. In spirit, Mary will always be present at these family gatherings.Talented and creative, Mary enjoyed making drapes and window treatments for her family which are wonderful remembrances of her good work. As a seamstress, Mary took great pride in making beautiful gowns, skirts and other fashionable outfits for family and friends. Mary's zest for life was evident in all that she did. Everyone looked forward to her company along with her shimmering outfits and fancy shoes. Wintering every year in Florida, Mary loved to sit in the sun by the ocean with a good book in hand. It is hard to believe that just in December she celebrated the New Year with a cruise in the Bahamas only to be diagnosed a few weeks later with stage four cancer. Throughout her last few weeks of life, Mary demonstrated a sense of peace that was truly inspirational. Although Mary has now joined her friends and family in heaven, she will live forever in our hearts. All of us are better off having known and loved her.
