In Loving Memory of Barbara Vodicka April 12, 1933 – November 6, 2024 Barbara Vodicka, a devoted wife, cherished mother, beloved grandmother, and adored great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 12, 1933, Barbara lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication to those she held dear. Barbara was the epitome of devotion, always placing her family at the center of her life. A dutiful wife and homemaker, she created a warm and nurturing home where traditions thrived and love flourished. She was a wonderful mother to her children and a constant source of joy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her presence was a guiding light, and she inspired everyone around her with her kindness and strength. Barbara had many passions that enriched her life and the lives of others. She loved gardening, spending hours outside tending to her flowers and watching the birds, especially her favorite hummingbirds. She was a talented cook and an accomplished seamstress, delighting in hosting family gatherings filled with love and laughter. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. It was at Trinity in the Woods Episcopal Church that she married the love of her life, Ronald. Barbara was an active member of Trinity in the Woods, where she sang joyfully in the choir and dedicated herself to her church community. Together, they built a life of love and adventure, traveling often to their cherished vacation home on the North Carolina coast, a place that became a hub for family memories and reunions over 40 years. Barbara lovingly chronicled these moments in a diary, preserving precious family history for generations to come. Barbara's vibrant spirit extended to her early years when she was crowned Miss Ilion, NY, and enjoyed a memorable trip to New York City and a grand parade in her honor. She later built a successful career as a school secretary and administrative assistant at Detroit Country Day, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and a second family among her colleagues. Even after retirement, Barbara stayed connected, participating in the Blue & Golden Girls group and remaining an active part of the school community. A lifelong cat lover, Barbara cherished her furry companions and took great care of them throughout her life. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her son, Richard; her parents, Leon and Cora; and her six siblings. She is survived by her loving children, Jayne (Don), Margaret (Wayne), Kathleen (Tim) and daughter-in-law Amy: her three step-children Marie (Rob), Sue, and Ron Jr. (Allyn); 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss her warmth and wisdom. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held in early 2025 at Trinity in the Woods Episcopal Church, a place that was central to her life and faith. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Trinity in the Woods Episcopal Church. Barbara’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a blessing to her family and friends and will be remembered with deep affection and gratitude.
