Rev Richard Anthony Ranalletti

Fr. Richard Anthony Ranalletti, CSB, of the Congregation of St. Basil (the Basilian Fathers), entered his eternal rest on February 14, 2014 in Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia, MI, where he had been residing since August 2013. Born in Rochester, NY on September 3, 1944, he attended that city's Corpus Christi Elementary School, staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph, and went on to graduate from The Aquinas Institute (1962) and St. John Fisher College (1966) with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Education, both these latter institutions being under the direction of the Basilian Fathers at the time. He entered the Basilian Fathers' novitiate in Erindale (outside Toronto, ON) and professed his religious vows on September 8, 1967. Spending his seminary years in residence in that city's St. Basil's College, he completed his Master of Divinity (1972) at the University of St. Michael's College, also a Basilian institution, within the University of Toronto. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1973 in Annunciation Church in Rochester, NY by Bishop Joseph Hogan. His priestly ministry was devoted to education, with appointments to The Aquinas Institute in Rochester, NY as teacher, Guidance Counselor, and Assistant Principal (1972-82), to Detroit Catholic Central High School in Redford, MI as teacher and Assistant Principal (1982-85), to Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA as teacher, Director of Studies, Assistant Principal, and Principal (1985-2000), and again to Detroit Catholic Central High School in both Redford and Novi, MI as Principal (2000-10) and President (2010-12). He rounded out his distinguished career in administration as the Secretary-General and Treasurer-General of the Congregation of St. Basil at the Basilian Fathers' Curial Offices in Toronto, ON (2012-13). Fr. Ranalletti was predeceased by his dear parents Philip Anthony and Florence Marthage Ranalletti, and his nephew Daniel King. He is survived by his loving sister Joan King of Nokomis, FL, his niece Doreen Phillips of Wareham, MA, his nephews Timothy King of Colebrook, CT and Michael King of Apopka, FL, his cousin Ralph Simolo of Rochester, NY, numerous grand nieces and nephews, as well as several great grand nieces and nephews. Fr. Ranalletti's unique and positive influence has been far-reaching and long-lasting, and his loss is profoundly felt by the many people who have been gratefully touched by that influence. May he rest forever in the peace of the Risen Christ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Richard Ranalletti, CSB Memorial Scholarship Fund at Detroit Catholic Central High School. The visitation and wake will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Detroit Catholic Central High School, 27225 Wixom Road, Novi, MI 48374-1119. The visitation begins at 4:00 pm, and a prayer service begins at 7:00 pm. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 Ten Mile Road, Novi, MI 48374. The visitation begins at 6:30 pm, and the Mass of Resurrection begins at 7:30 pm. Interment will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 Ten Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48033.
