Marion Margaret Wood April 5, 1930 – March 11, 2025 Marion Margaret Wood, a lifelong Michigan resident and a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, teacher, and community member, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on April 5, 1930, Marion, affectionately known as "Margo" to many, lived a life filled with kindness, connection, and adventure. Often described as the nicest person anyone had ever met, she had a natural gift for making people feel seen, valued, and welcomed. She was a true conversationalist—whether with a friend or a stranger, Marion could effortlessly draw people out of the corners and into the heart of the gathering, always sweeping the room with warmth and charm. Marion's intelligence and curiosity shone brightly throughout her life. She was an avid follower of current events and a passionate sports fan, particularly when it came to her hometown teams. She cheered faithfully for the Detroit Tigers, as well as all of Detroit’s sports teams, and when it came to the fierce rivalry between the University of Michigan and Michigan State, she always hoped for a tie—her heart belonged to both. Her love of learning led her to Wayne State University and she later transferred to Michigan State University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Journalism. She went on to do her graduate studies at the University of Michigan, where she earned her degree in teaching, embodying a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Marion instilled the importance of education in her family and served as an elementary school teacher in Detroit for many years, inspiring countless young minds with her dedication and compassion. Throughout her life, Marion was deeply involved in a variety of social groups where she often took on roles of hospitality, welcoming new faces and helping them feel at home. She was a proud member of the Tip Toppers, a co-ed group for tall individuals, where she was crowned Miss Detroit in their beauty contest. She was also part of the adventurous Nomads Group, traveling the world and embracing mystery destinations with enthusiasm. Marion had a deep sense of independence, always leading by example for her daughters and grandchildren. She showed them that women could be strong, self-reliant, and graceful. She carried herself with elegance, dressed beautifully, and remained intellectually sharp throughout her life. Outside of her many accomplishments and activities, Marion had a love for animals, especially her horses at her barn in Brighton. She also adored shopping and fashion, and she brought her distinctive style and grace to every aspect of her life. Marion’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her four loving daughters: Lori (Don), Melanie (Adam), Denise (Jeff), and Adelle (Jim); her seven cherished grandchildren: Kent (Brittany), Adam, Collin, Jordan (Lydia), Mitch, Theo, and Lilah; and her beloved great-grandson, Oliver. She also leaves behind a host of friends who were touched by her kindness and her genuine spirit. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, she cherished her church family and held her beliefs close to her heart. Marion Margaret Wood will be taken to her final resting place at Orchard United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills on Saturday, May 24, 2025 beginning at 10:00 am. Donations in her memory can be made to the ASPCA, Humane Society, American Red Cross, or Doctors Without Borders close to her compassionate heart. She lived her life as a beacon of kindness, intelligence, and grace. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
