Harold Ross McCurdy

After not being able to drink Busch Light for the last 4 months and battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Harold Ross McCurdy of Houghton Lake, Michigan, passed away to tap that never-ending keg in the sky, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, while surrounded by loved ones. Thankfully, due to his “impeccable” taste of beer, we are all pretty confident he will have quite the supply ALL to himself. He won Busch Light, we lost him, so I guess we all know who the real winner is here. Better known to his friends and family as “Bud,” he was Born August 21, 1947 in Lansing, MI to Bill and Ginny McCurdy. Growing up in Michigan with his brother, Mike, Bud was known as quite the combination of a handful and a ladies’ man. That was until Sheila Hoskins made an honest man out of him as they married on June 25th, 1966 and spent 56 wonderful years together. They created a beautiful family. Well, their beautiful daughter Connie, and then we guess there was Ron too. Regardless of the beauty of their daughter, or lack thereof of their son, their family is and was everything to them. Bud is survived by quite the rowdy, loving bunch including his daughter, Connie Cates (Dave), son, Ron McCurdy (Diane), Grandchildren Dustin Culp (Christine), Damon Culp (Stephanie), Victoria Culp (Bo), David Culp, Rachel McCurdy (Mo), and Evan McCurdy. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, his beloved granddog Stanley, and grandcat Boe Boe. Bud’s life was a combination of his love for the lake, love for his MSU Spartans, and love for his family. Some might say in that order. There are few words that could summarize the impact he has had on his close friends and family, but the torch of mowing his lawn shirtless in jean shorts, and his hatred of all green veggies will for sure be passed on for generations to come. He loved his lawn, his garden, his home, his friends, his family, and his life. We know his desire to ALWAYS be the boss will give the big man upstairs a run for his money, but we are confident that with his charm, wit, and unconditional love that Bud will soon become a favorite up there. He will be missed dearly on this Earth, but we are sure with his diligence and stubbornness, he will be watching every move we all make down here, and making sure to let us all know what he thinks about it. Hopefully there isn’t a Life360 in Heaven, or else we all are in jeopardy of being stalked by him for the rest of our lives. Stalking his family in the most loving way was a favorite pastime of his. On any adventure, we always knew to never speed on our way because Papa WOULD KNOW (thanks, technology). Who knows, maybe stalking us in the afterlife will be his best joke yet! We love you, Bud! In 2023 in the U.S. alone, the American Cancer Society predicts there will be 20,380 new cases of AML, most of which will be in older adults. About 11,310 of those cases will lead to death, and virtually all of them will be in elderly adults.
